Judaculla Rock & The Devil's Courthouse

"Judaculla" is a mispronunciation from the true Cherokee name Tsul 'Kalu.

"The Devil's Courthouse" is another European term for Tsul'Kalu's place of lookout, I was unable to find the correct name for it.

Judaculla Rock

This soapstone is said to be filled with petroglyphs carved by Tsul'Kalu himself. Dr. Belt claims they are believed to be a triple layer map of The Above, The Land and The below. It is said to give The Cherokee people all of the information they need to live on the land successfully and harmoniously but being able to read it has been a lost art due to the genocide that Native Americans faced, The Trail of Tears, and the overall displacement of The Cherokee people.

Devil's Courthouse Overlook

The Cherokee people believe this to be the location of the lookout of Tsul'Kalu as well as where he held court. It is said you could hear music coming from the cave in this mountain and if you could get close enough you would see him dancing with the Nunehi (The Immortals) as well as his wife and two children. This place was later coined "The Devil's Courthouse" by Europeans who claimed that "Judaculla" was the "Cherokee Devil" and believed this is the sinister place where he held court.
